Clean Beauty Brand Intros & More of the Beautycounter Story

Hello you fabulous person!

Many of you have caught up that Beautycounter is going to be MIA for the next few months. I shared it briefly on my Instagram and then in my general Luci's Morsels newsletter. But I wanted to share a little more of the whole story and then some great alternatives because I refuse to let any of us not use glorious skin products to look fabulous all the time!

So. The BC story. Basically, the founder of the company sold the company to an investment group about 5 years ago. They managed it terribly and just kept losing money. Last month, she found out, with very little time to act, that they were getting ready to move on from the company, leaving debt in their wake. She acted as fast as she could, but even just a normal buyout would be complicated, and this was a few extra levels.

So what does that mean for us? Well, the Beautycounter site is fully out of commission for the next few months. I'm crossing my fingers but not holding my breath for September or October. Items will be sold through ULTA online, but unsurprisingly many products are temporarily out of stock.

But I'm almost out of my cleansing oil and my charcoal mask. My husband is out of his Countermatch cleanser and lotion, so we have some (not so serious) emergencies on our hands!

I've been talking to people, doing some research, and reaching out to professionals I know in the clean beauty world. And while I have yet to find a truly (almost) all encompassing brand as good as Beautycounter that takes ingredient so seriously, there are some pretty amazing alternatives, depending on what you're looking for. I'll be sharing some focused reviews of brands in the coming weeks, but I wanted to give you a good rundown of the brands along with a few products.

If you have any specific product swaps you need, feel free to email, message, or text me. I'm here for it all - even if you don't feel like reading through this whole email.

CLEAN SKINCARE/BEAUTY BRANDS

KARI GRAN - Kari Gran is a brand I've been familiar with for a while and am excited to start using. The skincare is oil-based (remember oils can be good for everyone), so very elegant, and made in the US. I've already fallen in love with the Lip Whip (I used the blush in peppermint) and the essential peptide serum (a great Countertime radiance serum substitute). I'm excited to try the cleansing oil and the cleansing bar!

Use code WELCOME15 on your first purchase - free shipping and returns

CRUNCHI - Crunchi is the most complete line that is on par for ingredients and as extensive in terms of offerings as Beautycounter! Many tout their makeup as superior to BC even. A few of your favorite product swaps...

Countertime Supreme Cream Nightlight Advanced Facial Cream
Countertime Soft Cream → Daylight Advanced Facial Cream
All Bright Facial Oil I AM Luminous Facial Oil
All Bright SerumI AM Bright Vitamin C Facial Serum

Use Code ADVOCATE10 for 10% off and free shipping over $50 on your first order.

I have direct replacement recommendations for almost all Beautycounter products in the Crunchi line, so please just hit reply with any product you want the comparable one for!

DESAVERY - Desavery is a women-owned brand from the UK. Every item is bottled by the founder. The line has a very simple, straightforward approach to ingredients and even steps. Less is more. I LOVE the hyaluronic acid serum (the hydrating kind serum). I'm currently trying the cleansing oil and liking it so far (one of the best replacements I've tried for the Countertime Cleansing Oil) and her body oil is lovely.

Use code LUCISMORSELS for 15% off your first purchase.

ACTIVIST - Activist is a completely refillable skincare line. I've tried the whole line and while the serums are nice, it's the facial oil that I really love! You can read my review of the complete line here. One of the fabulous options here is that you can get a trial kit and try all of the products yourself and then pick what you and your skin like form there.

Use code LUCISMORSELS20 for 20% off.

TRUE BOTANICALS - I love the few products from True Botanicals that I've tried over the years. Their products are EWG-verified (just like many of BC's), they're MADESAFE certified which speaks to their sustainability and they're just good, beautiful products. Like dreamy! A few product swaps:

Countertime Supreme Cream Chebula Extreme Cream
Mighty Plump → Hydrating Barrier Cream
SugarBuff Body Polish → Exfoliating Sugar Body Scrub

I also just got the body butter and LOVE the light complexity of the scents!!

You can find many of their products at Nordstrom as well!

Hi Reader, My husband and I quote a lot of movies - dumb movies and great movies. Kid movies and classic movies. One of our most quoted? "The last melon" from Ice Age. The animals encounter a colony of Dodo birds prepping for the Ice Age. They have one female, who sadly meets her demise, and 3 watermelons to last them "underground for a billion, billion years." Pretty soon they're down to the last melon....and then no more melons (or Dodo birds for that matter). So with that silly mindset,...

Hi Reader, The weather finally turned this week. We've had chilly mornings, some rain even (yay!) and I'm starting to look for the layers I have packed away in my winter clothes storage!! I wasn't sure I was ready for cool weather, but it feels good. I want to hang onto this early Fall for a while now!! A few fun things to share. We visited Chico, California last weekend. I grew up 20 minutes away and am back frequently, but my husband and I got to play tourist and had a lot of new...
